Shorter Trips
About once a month we spend a few days in a Pennsylvania State Park. (If you need camping gear, our recommendations are here). Our experience is you can’t go wrong picking a Park. Some of the Parks we’ve enjoyed as a family that are in easy striking distance from our home in Central Pennsylvania include:
- Colonel Denning State Park
Check out the Flat Rock Trail (5 miles out and back) - French Creek State Park
Make sure the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site will be open - Hickory Run State Park
Check out the Boulder Field and Hawk Falls (1 mile out and back)
- Pine Grove Furnace State Park.
Check out the Pole Steeple Trail (1.5 miles out and back) - Sledding at Prince Gallitzin State Park
- The Nature Inn at Bald Eagle State Park
